UCSB Club Sports Roundup, 1996 February 29

Highlighting the weekend's UC Santa Barbara Sport Clubs activity was a clean sweep by the Gaucho Lacrosse teams. The men's Laxers travelled North to defeat Stanford 11-4 and Santa Clara 23-8, while the women were down south, with the "A" squad downing UCLA 15-7 and USC 19-4 and the "B" team thrashing Redlands 20-2. All three squads return home this Sunday for a triple-header at the Scrimmage Field, with Women's "A" hosting Occidental at 10, Women's "B" entertaining the University of San Diego at noon, and the Men's team closing the action against Whittier at 2.

Neither the wet field nor the University of San Diego could stop the Gaucho rugby juggernaut, as UCSB were 28-8 victors at home. This Sunday San Diego State comes to town for a 1pm match at Storke Field.

The UCSB Cycling team was in San Jose for the weekend; they placed fifth out of ten in Saturday's Hill Climb Time Trial, and came in fourth of twelve in Sunday's Fremont Criterium, thanks in part to first-place finishes by Brian Kull in the Men's C division and Paul Lucas in Men's D. Alison Takao's second place finish in the B division led the Gaucho women. This Saturday and Sunday will see the UC Santa Barbara Cyclists in San Luis Obispo.

In other upcoming events we find the UCSB Rowing team travelling to Morrow Bay Saturday before returning home to Lake Cachuma on Sunday, while the Men's and Women's Ultimate Frisbee squads will spend the weekend at the Stanford Invitational.
