UCSB Club Sports Roundup, 1996 May 15
The UC Santa Barbara Rowing team competed in the Pacific Coast
Championships in Sacramento, in the only UCSB Sport Club activity of
the week. The lightweight Novice 4s did the best, with the women
beating out Humbolt State and Seattle Pacific for a gold medal, while
the men came second to Humbolt for the silver. The men's novice 8
also took home a silver medal finishing second to Orange Coast
College, while UCSB's other medal was a Bronze in Men's single
sculling. Coming in fourth in their respective divisions were the
UCSB women's novice 8 and varsity lightweight 8, the latter finishing
a mere half-second behind bronze medal winner UC San Diego. Other
Gaucho boats in competition were the men's and women's novice 4s, who
took twelfth and sixth place in their divisions, and the Women's
Varsity 8, who finished fifteenth.
Only one upcoming sport club activity this weekend, but it's
on campus, as the UCSB Triathlon team is hosting a public swim and run
at the Rec Cen Saturday morning. Signups start at 8:30, and the
event, a 700 meter swin followed by a four mile run, begins at 9.
And that's the Club Sports Roundup for the week ending May 15,
1996.
