ECAC Hockey Report, 1995 October 23

Four of the twelve ECAC schools began non-conference play this past weekend. Defending champions RPI fell 7-3 to the Riverhawks UMass-Lowell; one preseason favorite, Vermont, defeated New Hampshire 7-4, while the other, Colgate, lost 6-4 to the Canadian University of Waterloo. Surprisingly, last year's tenth-place finisher, the Skating Dutchmen of Union College, handed Waterloo a 9-0 loss the following afternoon.

The rest of the league will begin play next weekend, with the six Ivy League schools involved in exhibitions while the other six squads see further non-conference action. Rensselaer travels to Ohio for a two-game series with Bowling Green, while last year's regular season kings Clarkson are in Denver for a pair against the Pioneers of DU. Colgate and Union host Maine and New Hampshire of the Hockey East conference, while St. Lawrence hosts the WCHA's St. Cloud State and Vermont entertains national champions Boston University.

In the Ivy exhibitions Friday, Brown hosts Acadia, Dartmouth entertains Dalhouise and Yale takes on a team to be named later. On Saturday, Cornell hosts Western Ontario and Harvard is at home against Acadia, while on Sunday Princeton is at Plattsburgh.
